The objective of this Chair is to become an international center of expertise in the training of high-level engineers and researchers for the management of water in terms of both risk and resource, quantity and quality, to tackle the technical challenges of tomorrow’s city and increase its resilience in response to intense rainfall events.
Experimentation will play a large role, with the Chair planning to use and exploit the technological innovation of the dual-polarization X-band hydrometeorological radar system.
Big cities are particularly vulnerable to intense rainstorms.
To increase their resilience, precipitation data at a very fine scale are needed to obtain the most accurate hydrological models and forecasts. The Chair’s research will rely on the installation and subsequent commissioning of a dual-polarization X-band hydrometeorological radar system, providing observations with high spatial resolution.
The goal of this research will be to achieve better understanding and forecasting of rainfall phenomena, which can be used in the development of decision-making tools to improve the effectiveness of rainfall management in urban areas.
